Ask J'net Free Fridays: Q & A Session - July 24th at 9:00 am PST
You’ve all asked me for it and it’s finally here! Once a month I’ll host Free Fridays, where I’ll get on the phone with all those interested in participating and answer your burning questions. Ask J’net simple questions: don’t be embarrassed, there ARE NO “STUPID” QUESTIONS …you know everyone else is thinking ‘Thank goodness’ you asked. Ask J’net more complex questions: I’ll give it my all. Just know that the world is listening, so you want to make sure you ask questions that you are okay for your fellow-art-licensing-colleagues to hear LIVE and learn from as well. Keep in mind, some questions can’t be answered unless you divulge the details. I can’t wait to share this time with you!
Send your questions ahead to askjnet@jnetsmith.com. You may also submit questions as we go to this email, however questions asked prior to the day of the event will be given priority.
We’ll post all the Free Friday dates on the web site, and you must sign up for each one individually.
To register email info@jnetsmith.com with your question and "July Free Friday" in the subject line and we will send you the phone number to dial-in! It's that easy! Please be patient, your dial-in information will come the day before the event.
Legal Ease - Simplifying Copyrights, Trademarks, & Contracts for Artists
Elizabeth T. Russell of Russell Law, LLC, Legal Services for Creative People and Jeanette Smith
Date: July 29th, 2009
Time: 3:30 to 5:30 PM PST (6:30 to 8:30 PM EST)
Price: $75.00
This course will provide you with both the legal and business perspectives and information you need on the most important contractual topics related to art licensing.
Elizabeth Russell is one of the few lawyers nationwide who can really break down legal jargon, assess your needs, and illustrate the steps you must take to protect yourself into plain and simple English.
Jeanette Smith will add business and negotiation relevance to these concepts and practical steps to help artists and creators, whether you are currently operating a licensing business or are ready to begin learning the licensing process.
Topics discussed will be:
- What you need to know to protect your art, web site, licensed product, and more.
- What does it mean when they say you must defend your property?
- What's the difference between copyrights and trademarks, and why should I care? How do I know which one I need?
- Art licensing contract details from the lawyer, artist, agent, and manufacturer perspectives.
- How to take a manufacturers contract and make it your own.
- When do you absolutely need a lawyer and when you don’t.
- Ways to protect yourself and keep costs down…
… And plenty of time to take your LIVE questions!
