What are the challenges artists face when dealing with licensees and retailers?: I see the Art Licensing arena as a growing and exciting place. But since the manufacturers are being squeezed by retailers, artists are required to take on more roles than before when it comes to licensing.
How can new artists build licensing programs if retailers and manufacturers only want to work with artists who are already established?: This is the proverbial dilemma for artists who want to get started. But I think that artists CAN overcome this obstacle by showing your skills, talents and professionalism in many other ways.
What skills do you think artists need to succeed in licensing?: Artists need to consider that their unique style of art is only one aspect of the "package" they offer to retailers and manufacturers. Their production capabilities, ability to translate art and design onto product, as well as their overall efficiency and "ease" to work with can make all the difference in getting the deal.
